- RISC OS DeskTop Game of Reversi
- 12
- -------- Version I 1.00 December 1990 --------
-
- The game of Reversi is played on an 8 x 8 board
- using 64 counters which are red on one side and
- orange on the other.
-
- Play begins in the 4 central squares and moves
- outwards, the first four counters being placed
- automatically by the program.
-
-
- The object of the game of Reversi is to finish
- with more counters of your colour showing than
- your opponent.
-
- The aim of any move on the board is to for you
- to trap your opponent's counters between two of
- your own. This will cause the other counters in
- between to 'flip over', and thus become yours.
-
-
- The line of counters can run in any direction,
- Horizontally, Vertically or Diagonally.
-
- This game has been designed to operate in the
- multi-tasking window environment of the RISC OS
- DeskTop.

- ------------ Playing DeskTop Reversi ----------
-
- Once the Reversi icon has been installed on the
- Iconbar, the main board window can be opened by
- clicking the SELECT button whilst the mouse is
- over the Reversi icon.
-
- Clicking the MENU button over the Reversi board
- window will open a menu with the following:
-
- -------------- Main Menu Choices --------------
- New Game - this will initialise all scores and
- reset the board for a new game. This
- option can be used at any time.
-
- Options - this leads to another window to let
- you change various player options.
-
- Scoring - this allows you to view the scores.
-
- --------------- The Options Menu --------------
- This menu allows you to choose from a range of
- player options:
- You can select to play HUMAN against HUMAN, or
- HUMAN/ARCHIMEDES, or ARCHIMEDES/ARCHIMEDES, and
- which colour plays which.
-
- If you choose the ARCHIMEDES, you can also set
- the level of difficulty it will play at -
- EASY / FAIR / AVERAGE / DIFFICULT
- -------------- Computer Auto Play -------------
- This determines when the Archimedes will move.
-
- If the AUTO mode is set ON, then the Archimedes
- will play it's move immediately after yours.
-
- If AUTO mode is OFF, then you have to click on
- the COMPUTER button when you want the computer
- to move.
- (Useful if both players are the ARCHIMEDES)
- Finally, after you have chosen all your options
- click over the 'OK' button to set them.
-
- Please note, you can change the options at any
- time, even during a game!
-
- This is useful, when studying tactics, to show
- what the Archimedes would have done with your
- next move!
-
- ----------------- Hints & Tips ----------------
-
- If you can't move at any time, click over the
- 'Can't Move' button.
-
- Scores window - If you want this window to stay
- visible on screen click SELECT over Scoring in
- the main Menu, rather than moving right to open
- the Scores window.
-
- ------------ The !Interface Module ------------
-
- The 'I' in this version number is there to show
- that it uses Simon Huntingdon's great Interface
- Manager module to achieve it's 3-D effects.
-
- This module is an essential item if you want
